Anyway, MRT in Singapore is one of the main public transportation besides buses. So if you visit this country, you will often use the MRT. MRT is a train network that connects many places. In Jakarta it is like a commuter train, but MRT is cleaner and on time.
The MRT station is generally open at 06.00 - midnight. Not all stations open and close at the same time. Some are open early, some are late, some are closed at 11:00 pm, some are closed until midnight, depending on the first and last train passing through the station. When the station is open, closed, the first train and the last train, you can see it on the bulletin board in front of the station. To be safer you should take the train around 6:00 to 11:00 at night. If you are late, you may miss the last train. If there are no trains passing again, then the only way is to take a bus or take a taxi.
So, if you are curious about how to use MRT to get around Singapore, just read below :
Step 1 - From Changi Airport to MRT Station
If you are at Changi Airport, the MRT station is at Terminal 2. To go to Terminal 2, you can take SkyTrain. Then exit Terminal 2, look for the Train To City instructions. You will find an underground MRT station.
Step 2 - Find the Ticket Machine
After arriving at the MRT station, look for a ticket machine. The ticket machine is stick on the wall, and there are usually lots of people waiting in line.
Near the ticket machine there is usually an MRT map, study the map, which routes you will pass. Each color in the map above shows the path the train passes. If you are at Changi Airport, you are at the end of the green line number 3. The white circle, shows the interchange station, that is the transit station for those of you who want to move to another color line.
Example trip :
Changi Airport -> Bugis:
From Changi Airport, take the green line then get off at the Tanah Merah transit station.
From Tanah Merah station, take the green line train towards Joo Koon, and get off at Bugis station.
Changi Airport -> Lucky Plaza:
From Changi Airport, take the green line then get off at the Tanah Merah transit station.
From Tanah Merah station, take the green line train towards Joo Koon, and get off at City Hall station.
From the City Hall station, take the red line train towards Jurong East, and get off at Orchard.
Step 4 - Buy a ticket
There are several ways to buy MRT tickets, you can buy tickets directly at the ticket machine, or use a prepaid card (if in Indonesia it's like a BCA flash, or Mandiri e-toll card).
Standard Ticket
The easiest way is that you buy a standard ticket on the ticket machine. Standard tickets are card-shaped one-way tickets. You have to enter and exit the station you have chosen with the card, if you are wrong the station you cannot get out and will be fined if you force it out. After you leave the station, return the ticket card to the ticketing machine, and you will get your change of money.
EZ-Link Card
If you stay long, or want to go back to Singapore later, you better buy EZ-Link for easy payment. EZ-Link is a kind of prepaid card that can be used as a payment instrument for the MRT or bus.
Singapore Tourist Pass (STP)
Especially for tourists who live in Singapore for 1-3 days, you can buy Singapore Tourist Pass (STP) passes. You can use this ticket to ride the MRT and bus as you like during the validity period.
Step 5 - Tap Cards
After you get the ticket in the form of a smart card, head to the entrance to the MRT station. Look for a door with a green arrow. Then bring the card (tap) to the right door pole that has the card image. Place the card until it beeps, then the door will open automatically.
Step 6 - Search for the Train Line
After you enter the station look for the train line that you want to use. As mentioned above, each train line has its own color. If you take the red line train, look for the red train track instructions.
Step 7 – Get on the line orderly
After the train line has been found, get on the line in an orderly manner. Don't queue at the door, but just stand beside the door. Look on the floor with arrows.
Step 8 - Enter the Train
The train comes in about 5 minutes, let people get out of the train first, then we get into the train. After entering, look for an empty seat or if nothing is empty, then you can just stand. I recommend that you not occupy the reserved seat, because the chair is specifically for parents, pregnant women, disabled people, etc. Look at the picture of the prohibition on the train, such as being prohibited from eating and drinking, smoking, etc.
Step 9 - Pay Attention to Station Announcements
Moments before the train stops, you will be announced about the station where the train stops. Example announcement: "Next Station Bedok" or "Next Station Orchard". If your destination is near you should immediately stand near the door so it's easy to get out.
Step 10 - Exit carefully
Above the door there is a door sign which will open. Stand in line in front of the door that will open. After the train stops, get out carefully.
Step 11 - Look for Exit
To find the exit, look for the Exit sign. Pay attention to the name of the Exit, because the distance between the Exit doors can be very far away. So if you go wrong you can walk very far.
Step 12 - Tap Your Card at the Exit
Like when entering, when exiting you are also required to attach a card at the exit. Stick the card until the beep, and the door will open automatically.
Step 13 - Return the Ticket to the Ticket Machine
If you buy a standard ticket from the ticket machine, then you must return the ticket to the ticket machine. A deposit will be returned. Then get out of the ticket machine. But if you use EZ-Link or STP you don't need to return the ticket.
Prohibition in MRT :
In Singapore there are many prohibitions, which if you are infringed you can get a fine. If you are within the MRT area, either at the station or in the train, you are :
- prohibited to carry durian.
- forbidden to eat and drink, if you violate, you will get fined as much $ 500
- No smoking, if you violate, you’ll get fined as much $ 1000
- It is prohibited to carry flammable items, when you violate, you’ll get fined $ 5,000

Easy to understand. The point is following the route to your destination ya.
I hope one day I have the chance to try it myself. And with my family.
